Giving Back

It’s easy to feel powerless in an increasingly reactionary world. I can’t remember the last time a vote I cast resulted in the outcome I wanted and the rise of intolerance and flagrant misogyny fills me with horror.

So, I do my little bit. And it is only a little bit. Primarily, I support women in Third World countries attempting to gain control over their lives by starting micro-businesses. I do this through Kiva.

The great advantage of this approach is that this is lending not giving. Now, you might think that’s not very charitable of me, but by doing it this way, when a loan is repaid, I get to lend that same money to another person. A little goes a long way.

And, in case you’re wondering, every single loan I’ve made has been repaid.

Take a look at Kiva if you’re interested in an organisation where everyone is a winner.
