Wow, what a rollercoaster! I’ve had the thrill of writing a twist I’d seen coming a few days ago and have spent the intervening time laying the groundwork for. If I’ve done my job well, readers won’t see it coming. Those who’ve read book 1 or the prequel will get a particular thrill from it.
During my research today, I also discovered that a night’s bed and breakfast would cost around 3 shillings in Victorian times. Given that there were 20 shillings to a pound, that means an equivalent cost of 15p. But then an infantryman could expect to earn a shilling a day, so that would be 3 days pay.
I’m now up to 1500 words a day, so I’m getting there ahead of really pushing the trigger over the next couple of weeks.
